The kind of soup your nan would make when life was cold, tough, or you were broke as — stretching chicken into a pot of comfort that feeds the whole crew.

Ingredients
Preparation
Place drumsticks, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaf, and water/stock in a large pot.
Bring to boil, skim any foam, then simmer 25–30 mins until chicken is cooked through and broth is flavourful.
Remove drumsticks, shred the meat, discard bones, and return meat to the pot.
Add pasta and cook until tender (about 8–10 mins).
Season well, garnish with parsley, serve steaming hot.
4 chicken drumsticks (about 500g / 1.1lb)
1 onion, diced
2 carrots, diced (about 1 cup / 120g / 4oz)
2 celery stalks, diced (about 1 cup / 120g / 4oz)
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 bay leaf (optional)
6 cups (1.5L / 50 fl oz) water or chicken stock
1 cup (120g / 4oz) short pasta (macaroni, risoni/orzo, small shells)
Salt + pepper, to taste
Optional: sprinkle of parsley for serving
